Pineapple Coconut Smoothie

This smoothie is very reminiscient of a pina colada. The best thing about it is that it is not loaded with processed sugars, booze, or dairy.Which is a sweet way of getting your daily intake of fruits without all the unecessary calories.

A single serving of pineapple alone provides almost all of your daily requirements for manganese which is vital to proper digestion and bone structure. It also contains well over the daily requirement for Vitamin C which is essential to a healthy immune system among other benefits. But the real nutritional kicker lies in the stalk to which the fruit is attached. This stalk contains bromelain which is an anti-inflammatory agent that may also be tied to reducing tumor growth and blood clotting. So make sure to include the stalk along with the fruit when using fresh pineapple. Some low powered blenders may not be able to break it down properly, but your body will sure put it to good use!

Recipe:

1 organic banana
1 organic navel orange
2 cups frozen pineapple
1/2 cup unsweetened dried coconut flakes
2 cups filtered water

Directions:

In a blender, combine water, banana, orange, pineapple, and coconut flakes. Blend until smooth. Store in glass jars for up to 3 days in refrigerator.
