Mango Banana Chia Smoothie

Although I dig fresh mango, frozen fruits are more convenient (especially in winter months) and are picked at the peak of their freshness and quick frozen which allows them to retain their nutrient content. I buy a ridiculous amount of bananas each week and always end up freezing 1/3 of them when they become too ripe. They are perfect for making smoothies or a fun dairy free ice cream.

I do typically like to keep my smoothies to a 1 fresh/1 frozen ratio since using all frozen fruit requires much more water. But there's nothing wrong with using them if making small batches of smoothies and adding more water. At the end of the day, water is water, so might as well drink up!

The addition of chia seeds help to stabilize your blood sugar levels by adding them to smoothies that contain fruits with a high sugar content. Not to mention the added protein and Omega's they provide too!

Recipe:

1 1/2 cups frozen mango
1 frozen banana
1 tbsp. chia seeds
2 1/2 cups frozen water

Directions:

In a high powered blender, combine mango, banana, chia seeds and water. Blend on high until smooth. If using fresh mango or banana, use less water (roughly about 1 1/2 cups).
